About QuoteMyData
What does QuoteMyData do?
We help companies assess whether their operational records may fit a data licensing program. We research buyers, arrange introductions with your permission and compare available offers on scope, rights and payment. An inquiry does not guarantee a buyer or an offer.
What does it cost me?
The service is free for companies. A buyer may pay us when a deal closes. We disclose the applicable fee before an introduction; it is paid by the buyer, not deducted from your payment. You can also approach buyers directly.
Can my company legally license its records?
That depends on the records, proposed use, contracts, tool terms and applicable privacy obligations. Possessing an archive, removing names or obtaining officer approval does not settle all of those questions. Begin with an inventory and have the appropriate legal and privacy reviewers assess the scope before sharing records.
Will my data become public?
A licensing agreement must specify recipients, permitted uses, onward sharing and publication restrictions. Ask how the buyer prepares data and addresses re-identification or model disclosure risks. A private contract and de-identification do not eliminate every risk.
How long does it take?
The calculator produces a planning range immediately. A potential deal then needs buyer review, rights checks, an agreement and data acceptance. Payment timing varies by program and often starts only after acceptance, so ask for the milestones and review deadline in writing.
Do I have to accept an offer?
No. An estimate or inquiry is not a commitment. You decide whether to proceed. Before signing, compare the payment with preparation costs, exclusivity, future restrictions and the value of keeping the records private.
Value, legality and process
Is there a calculator to estimate what my company data is worth?
Yes. Our quote form gives an indicative range from your headcount, years of history, systems and language, anchored to buyers’ published ranges. The method and sources are shown on the quote page. It is not an offer.
Is data brokering illegal?
No. Selling or licensing data is legal in many cases, but it is regulated. Consumer personal data faces strict rules; licensing your own de-identified operational records is a different and narrower activity.
Who needs to approve a data license?
Identify the authorized signer and the required privacy, legal, contractual and governance approvals for the actual scope. Officer approval alone does not supply missing rights or resolve obligations to people in the records.
Is there a broker that helps companies sell their data to AI companies?
Yes, several. QuoteMyData researches relevant programs, seeks offers with your permission and may receive a buyer-paid fee when a deal closes. Compare any broker on transparency about fees and on whether it shares every offer.
Does using a broker lower my payout?
QuoteMyData does not deduct its buyer-paid fee from your payment. That does not prove a buyer would offer the same price through every route. Compare the actual net offer and terms, including the option of going direct.
Who does the technical work?
Assign extraction, preparation, review and delivery responsibilities in writing. Some programs provide tooling; your team still needs an authorized scope and a way to verify what is delivered.
How long after shutting down can a startup still sell its data?
There is no universal deadline. Verify the current rights holder, retention obligations, permitted access and buyer interest. Keeping an export does not preserve authority to sell it indefinitely.
Is SOC 2 enough?
No. Review the report’s scope, auditor, period and exceptions, and whether the controls cover the proposed pipeline and subprocessors. A certification or report does not establish that a particular transfer is permitted or risk-free.
Data types
How much is a company’s Slack history worth?
Published company-data program ranges are not Slack-only price lists. Ask a buyer to assess the permitted scope, historical coverage and quality of the decision context before treating any amount as an offer.
Can I sell my company’s Slack history if Slack’s API terms forbid AI training?
Slack’s API terms contain an LLM-training restriction for providers of applications offered outside their organization. Review the applicable agreements and proposed use for your situation. An administrator export is not an automatic exception to restrictions.
Will my employees’ names be shared?
Require a written handling and de-identification plan, including who can access the original records and when identifiers are removed. Inspect a permitted sample before transfer; do not assume every buyer or collection route handles identities the same way.
Can I license emails with my clients?
Usually not. Client communications are often covered by contracts, NDAs or professional rules. Internal and vendor email is the safer core of a dataset.
Do my customers need to consent?
It depends on your customer terms and the jurisdictions involved. A clause permitting aggregated analytics does not automatically authorize licensing record-level histories for AI training. Assess the actual reuse, disclosures and rights with the appropriate reviewer.
Will licensing our SOPs reveal our trade secrets?
You choose what is in scope. Exclude anything that is a competitive secret. A buyer’s proposed use may still affect competitive interests. Agree on permitted use and disclosure restrictions and consider whether retaining the material is preferable.
Is our Jira history really worth anything?
It may merit assessment if it preserves permitted decisions, context and outcomes. Linked chat and documents can help explain the workflow, but only a buyer-specific evaluation can establish an offer.
Can I sell my customer list?
No. Buyers want de-identified activity patterns, not contact lists. Selling personal contact data raises serious privacy issues and is not what these deals are about.
Buyers
Is micro1 legit for licensing company data?
micro1 is an established AI data company with a public data partnerships program, published deal ranges and payment terms. As with any buyer, get the terms in writing and compare with at least one other offer.
Does micro1 buy data from companies that have shut down?
Yes. micro1 runs a track for defunct companies and accepts them from more than ten countries. You still need authority to license the archive, usually from a former officer, the board or the entity holding the assets.
Can a company outside the US sell data to micro1?
Operating companies are targeted in US and Western markets with English data. Companies elsewhere are reviewed case by case, so do not assume eligibility.
Is Scale AI a good fit for a 25-person company?
Scale prefers 40 or more employees as a starting point, but assesses case by case. Smaller companies often find better traction with buyers that publish lower minimums.
Is Mercor legit for licensing company data?
Mercor runs a public company data program with stated payment timing. It also confirmed a supply-chain security incident in April 2026. Treat it like any buyer: get terms in writing, ask specific security questions and compare its offer with others.
Did the Mercor data breach affect companies that licensed data?
Public reporting, including the Wall Street Journal, focused on data about contractors; we have not seen reporting about licensed company datasets. If you are considering a deal, ask Mercor directly what changed in its security program and write those commitments into the contract.
Is Handshake AI legit for licensing company data?
Handshake is an established company with a public employer data program and published deal range. Get the terms in writing and compare with at least one other buyer.
What is the minimum company size for Handshake AI?
Its referral program targets 20 or more full-time employees and at least three years in operation.
Does Polyshares work with small companies?
Polyshares says depth of history matters more than headcount, so a smaller company with many years of detailed records can still be a fit.
Why choose a fixed-price, non-exclusive buyer?
You know the price before any data moves and keep the right to license elsewhere. The trade-off is that you may leave money on the table compared with a competitive direct deal.
Should I accept an exclusive data license?
Compare the proposed payment with the rights and future options you give up. Ask for non-exclusive terms against the same scope; no universal exclusivity premium has been verified.
How much can a shut-down startup get for its Slack and email?
Press reports put SimpleClosure AssetHub deals at roughly $10K to $100K. Some AI data buyers run separate tracks for defunct companies, so get more than one quote.
