## Can a company sell its Slack, email and ticket history to AI companies?

Some companies can license records of how their teams work: resolved tickets, internal discussions, procedures and project history. Programs such as micro1, Scale AI and Handshake AI publicly seek operational data. Each buyer decides which records it will consider and on what terms.

Start with a description of the systems, history and workflows you control. Ownership, contracts, tool terms and privacy obligations need review before any records are shared. We exclude client-confidential, HR, health and privileged records from our workplace-data assessment by default.

## How a data deal is built

Six layers between your company’s history and a signed license. We handle the parts that protect you.

1. Describe how work is recorded across chat, tickets, documents and project history. Start with an inventory, not an export.
2. Separate company-owned workflows from restricted records. Check contracts, tool terms and privacy obligations before approving a sample.
3. Agree who removes or transforms identifiers, where the work happens and how the remaining identification risk is reviewed.
4. Confirm current size, language, geographic and data requirements. You approve any introduction; the buyer decides whether to make an offer.
5. Compare the same records and rights. Price, exclusivity, acceptance conditions and preparation costs all affect the decision.
6. Set permitted uses, recipients, delivery milestones, review deadlines, payment and retention obligations in the signed agreement.

## Who buys company data, and for how much?

Use these tools to check buyer fit, understand published prices and prepare questions before a first conversation. Compare the same records and rights across offers so the differences are meaningful.

## Different businesses. Different records.

Start with the workflows your business records. Each industry guide explains useful context, ownership boundaries and questions to resolve before approaching buyers.

### Can your service history explain how problems were solved?

MSPs and IT service firms run on tickets, runbooks and constant chat. The useful assessment is whether permitted records preserve a problem, the diagnostic choices and a verified outcome after client-sensitive material is excluded.

### Years of briefs, feedback and delivery.

Agencies coordinate constantly: briefs, revisions, approvals and handoffs. The internal side of that work shows how creative and marketing projects actually get done.

### Exceptions, dispatch and the real world.

Logistics teams handle exceptions all day: late carriers, damaged freight, address problems. An assessment should show which choices, constraints and outcomes remain understandable without customer shipment details or restricted carrier material.

### RFIs, change orders, decisions.

Construction and engineering firms generate structured, high-stakes decision trails: RFIs, submittals, change orders and field reports. Identify the company-owned process behind those records, then check whether it can be explained without owner drawings, client specifications or restricted field reports.

### Small team, valuable history.

Field service companies such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical and pest control run on scheduling, dispatch, job notes and customer communication. The Information reported that data labeling startups were paying HVAC companies about $150,000 for their data.

### English tools, firm-owned history.

Many nearshore software and services firms in Latin America run Slack, Jira and docs in English for US clients. Ask each program to confirm country and language requirements. SourceX lists Latin America but its reviewed English thresholds conflict; confirm them in writing. Begin with firm-owned internal operations and exclude client work.

### Your company closed. Its history did not.

Some programs assess closed-company archives. First establish the current rights holder, required approvals and permitted retention; a former founder’s access alone is not enough.

## Why we built QuoteMyData

A headline price tells you little without the scope, rights and payment conditions behind it. We built QuoteMyData to help owners understand those differences, ask better questions and decide whether a data license is worth pursuing.

## Built for the questions your lawyer will ask.

[How we handle your information](https://quotemydata.com/security)

You approve introductions. Your team approves the records and rights in scope. We help identify the handling, payment and deletion terms to resolve before you sign.

- ### Written consent first

Nothing is shared with a buyer until an authorized officer approves it in writing.
- ### Review data preparation

Agree who removes identifiers, where that happens and how you review the result before approving a transfer.
- ### Client data stays out

Client files, NDA material, HR, health and privileged records are excluded by default.
- ### Define retention and deletion

Ask for retention limits, deletion evidence and clear treatment of copies, derived datasets and trained models.
- ### Paid by buyers, disclosed

Buyers may pay us when a deal closes. It is paid by the buyer, not deducted from your payment, and we say so on every page.

## How does QuoteMyData get paid?

The service is free for companies. A buyer may pay us when an introduction leads to a completed deal. We disclose that financial interest and the applicable fee before you choose an introduction. A directory listing does not imply a commercial relationship.

## Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? [Get a free quote](https://quotemydata.com/quote)

### What does QuoteMyData do?

We help companies assess whether their operational records may fit a data licensing program. We research buyers, arrange introductions with your permission and compare available offers on scope, rights and payment. An inquiry does not guarantee a buyer or an offer.

### What does it cost me?

The service is free for companies. A buyer may pay us when a deal closes. We disclose the applicable fee before an introduction; it is paid by the buyer, not deducted from your payment. You can also approach buyers directly.

### Can my company legally license its records?

That depends on the records, proposed use, contracts, tool terms and applicable privacy obligations. Possessing an archive, removing names or obtaining officer approval does not settle all of those questions. Begin with an inventory and have the appropriate legal and privacy reviewers assess the scope before sharing records.

### Will my data become public?

A licensing agreement must specify recipients, permitted uses, onward sharing and publication restrictions. Ask how the buyer prepares data and addresses re-identification or model disclosure risks. A private contract and de-identification do not eliminate every risk.

### How long does it take?

The calculator produces a planning range immediately. A potential deal then needs buyer review, rights checks, an agreement and data acceptance. Payment timing varies by program and often starts only after acceptance, so ask for the milestones and review deadline in writing.

### Do I have to accept an offer?

No. An estimate or inquiry is not a commitment. You decide whether to proceed. Before signing, compare the payment with preparation costs, exclusivity, future restrictions and the value of keeping the records private.
